The Lhasa Apso appered about 800 years ago, in Lhasa, capital of Tibet, breed down from two breeds that still exist today, the Tibetan Terrier and Tibetan Spaniel. It lived in palaces and monasteries of Tibet, acting as an alarm dog and awakening the powerful Mastif. It was considered sacred, and could not be sold, just gifted. In the 19 th century, was brogt to UK (United Kingdom), and only then the standard of the breed was defined.

The Lhasa is the dog of modern times. Never before was so demanded from a dog that it selfadjusted to

rthe routine and compact houses of their owners. No other breed fills so well the needs of the today. They stay perfectly well alone, and neither are destructive nor bark as some other breeds. They adapt themselves very well, even in small spaces, with a little commitment of the owner, they learn to make their needs in the right place and never forget it.
Of strong personality, it choses usually only one owner, the dog elect its favorite among the family, and he will cherich him for life. It does the suspicious and reserved kind, they are not aggressive, though they aren’t very receptive to strangers. It usually does not require attention and physical contact, although it likes to be close to it’s owner, it is very quiet and can spend many hours sleeping or playing alone.

Very alert and healthy, it is obedient when it wants to, but we should not try/it is hard to make a Lhasa do what he does not want to, because they know how to reinforce its will.
It’s of moderate activity, not a supporter of big walks or exited games. However when it is a puppy, until near one year of age, is very playful and can chew some objects because the change of teeth is very itchy, but it is easily solved offering him rubber toys for this cheweing purpose.
The Lhasa’s appearance needs no comments. Because of it’s furnishing it’s pointed as one of the most beautiful breeds. Opposed to what one might think, dogs for company do not require complicated care, this is limited to brush the furnishing twice and give a bath once a week.

The show dogs require more attention, especially with the headfurnishing, that can ruin easely. It is not common fur losses nor excessive nots, but many owners prefer to simplifie the routine adopting the puppy clipping, which leaves the furnishings with five to ten centimeters in length.
Although it’s a small dog it has a strong and well built structure. It has great health and some basic care will keep him like that. Some dogs spend a lifetime without getting sick, and it is an unusual a Lhasa needing medicines or emergency consultations.      See the Breed Standard.
